๐ซ๐ The Other Woman Episode FOUR:
Nkem was still pacing to and fro in the sitting room, thinking of what to do with herself since Mandy insisted they stated back to see when Joe would return home, when her phone began to ring.
It was Jackie calling to tell her about a new discovery she made that could help her conceive, and she had to walk into a room to take the call because she knew how Mandy would see the call.
โJackie, I quite appreciate all your efforts and concern for me, but you have to understand that I'm already too weary to try anything again!
โI mean Jackie, you and I have been to so many places, trying to get help, but it's just not working. I don't want to keep having hopes, it's draining me!โ Nkem told her friend.
โFine, but can you at least let me tell you about this? Can you allow me explain what I just discovered?โ Jackie asked her.
โOkay, see what we'll do. Mandy and her daughter are waiting for me, and we need to be somewhere now.
โI'll come over to your place tomorrow for lunchโ Nkem told Jackie who let out a screร m.
โWhat is Mandy doing with her daughter in your house by this time of the night? I hope it isn't what I'm thinking?
โNkem, I hope you're not about to ruin your God given home because of impatience?โ Jackie asked.
โImpatience! Oh you think I'm impatient? You think after waiting for twenty years and I wish to take the bull by the horn now, I'm impatient?
โJackie, you got married same year as I did. All three of you children are out of secondary school, not to talk about the fact that you had to even opt for some sort of family planning to keep you from getting pregnant, while I battled endlessly to get pregnant
โMandy married just two years before us, and today, her daughter is big and mature enough to be considered for a wife, for my husband, and you dare say I'm impatient?
โJackie don't you dare judge me because you don't know what it means to try to conceive and all the pains that goes with the things I have been through these past years.
โYou don't know what it means to always get humiliated by you mother in-law who didn't stop bringing in woman to you home, until she got one traditionally married to your husband without your knowledge.
โJoe may have been by my sides all along, but right now Jackie, he has two wives, one has been unable to give him children, and the new one, could get pregnant even tomorrow.
โHave you thought about what would become of me, when that happens? Like have you stopped to consider what my life would look like if the woman my mother in-law brought takes in now?
โI'll tell you! My mother-in-law will kick me out, and I'll start from the scratch again. Everything I've laboured for with my husband will be washed down the drain and I'll be left with nothing.
โDon't get me wrong Jackie, you won't be a sincere friend if you try to talk down on the good Mandy is trying to do here.
โHer daughter will get pregnant for my husband, have the baby, and let me adopt that child as mine, in exchange for what I've offered her.
โThat is the only way to keep me by my husband's sides and keep that dรชspicable Martha from taking over my homeโ Nkem told Jackie in a go.
โForgive me if I'm being pessimistic, but what will you do if that little girl decides to stay instead of leaving when the supposed baby is born?โ Jackie asked.
โDon't make me laugh Jackie. You and I know that can't happen. Why would she want to stay married to a man, old enough to be her dad? Is she going to fight over my husband with me? What will be her motivation?โ Nkem asked.
โThe same reason she's willing to allow a man she has always called uncle, a man just a few years younger than her dad, make love to her, and impregnate her, money!โ Jackie replied.
โWell, out of two รชvรฏls Jackie, I'll choose one. If it comes down to her deciding to stay as his wife, she'd have helped my mother-in-law steer clear my path and allow me breath with the birth of that child.
“The worst Farida can do is decide to stay back as Joe's wife, but she'll never try to take him away from me, like I know Martha would work with my mother in-law to do, if things go according to their plans.
โMy husband will only be bowing to pressure if he didn't give my mother in-law a grandchild. And believe me Jackie, I'd rather have Farida have that child, than the evรฏl woman my mother in-law brought this timeโ Nkem said, then she heard Mandy calling her.
โI have to go Jackie, I don't want Mandy knowing we've been talking about this. I don't want anything that'll make her change her mind about going through with the plan. I'll see you tomorrowโ she said and hung up.
She walked back into the sitting room and met her husband already back, with Martha hanging around him like motor spare parts.
He apologized to her for not coming to get her as he had planned, informing her about how his mother had sprained her ankle because of Martha, and how he had to take her to the hospital and forgot his phone in the mร d rush.
โThank you Mandy for bringing her home. I won't forget what you have done for me tonight.
“Ah Farida, you've grown so big now. How are your siblings and your daddy?โ he asked, trying to hide his exhaustion from the hospital stress.
โMy daddy must be fine wherever he is Uncle. We were about to leave before you came inโ she told him politely, hร ting the fact that he reminded her of her irresponsible father that knew nothing about taking care of his family, but kept drinking himself to stupor and getting arrested for gร mbling troubles almost every day.
Mandy felt like hitting her daughter for forcing them out of the house, and told her how stลซpid she was to have made them leave the house, when they could have made their move, since Mama wasn't around.
โMum, I'm still not convinced that this is a good idea. I have to talk with Max and be sure he's okay with all of these. I'm ready to do anything to help our family, but I don't want to risk my future with Max for any reasonโ Mandy told her mother as they drove home.
โDo you have to remain fลลlish all your days? Tell me Farida, did you sign a permanent contract with poverty?
โMax this, Max that, all because of some stลซpid feeling you call love when there's nothing on ground to help the love thrive.
โI made this same mistake with your father, getting carried away with his pretty face, and now, I have been facing the music because a handsome face doesn't pay bills.
โHe knows nothing about how you and your siblings feed, neither does he know a thing about how we keep facing hร rrasment and embร rrassment from the landlord, and now, even with your good look, the only thing you got from your father, you want to settle for that factory boy?โ Mandy bellowed at her daughter.
โWait mum, why are you sounding like you've been waiting to push me to that old man since forever? And why does it seem you're now trying to push Max entirely out of the picture?โ Farida asked her mother.
โDon't be stupรฎd Farida. I'm doing this to help my friend as much as I'm helping us. When you marry uncle Joe and have access to all his money, you can now see how much this means to us allโ Mandy told her daughter.
โMarry him? Why am I going to marry him when I'm just going to give up the baby to your friend and get the money to make Max and I live happily ever after?โ Farida asked, looking totally flabbergasted.
โOh Farida, you're going to weary me with your sรจnselessness. Did I really give birth to you?
โHow can you be this beautiful and still lack sense? What's the use of all this beauty if you are so low in reasoning? Your father is pลor, but at least, he is smart!
โWell, if I must spell it all out for you to know, he has to marry you for you to be able to lay claims to some of the money I'd like to make him pay you before Max marries youโ she told her, knowing she'd like to hear nothing but her together forever with Max.
Mandy went to bed that night, preparing to execute her plans the next day. And just like she had planned, before the end of the following day, Mandy had made Nkem lรปre her husband to a hotel room, where she spรฎked his drinks and left him totally out of his mind.
Farida was soon sent to him, wearing a provocating short skirt and braless top and looking like someone about to get on a pรฒrn set.
โOh Nkem, you look just as beautiful as you were the very first day I met you!โ Joe slurred, grabbing Farida, then began to kiss her crรฃzy.
Farida fought so hard to keep her tears back as she lay on the bed that day, while Joe scouted her entire body, going crรฃzier by the moment.
He made love to her throughout that night, getting it up just as soon as he reached there, and getting Farida so weary with the number of rounds he had to go, before he fell asleep.
