“What did you just say?” A lady whom June presume to be in her mid fifties ask as she walk in with two girls behind.
“Did you just say that you are my brother’s wife?” The older one amongst the two girls ask.
“You must be mistaken lady, the brother I know isn’t one to get married, he’s something of a player” The other girl said, giggling.
June stood in silence, watching the three ladies.
Before embarking on her deceit, Greg had told her everything about Damian and his family.
She knew the older lady to be Martha Brooks, Damian mother and as for the older girl who was glaring at her, She knew her to be Damian sister, Davina Brooks and lastly, the other girl smiling warmly at her is known to be Cathy Brooks.
“Cat got your tongue or are you deaf?” Davina ask jolting her out of her reverie.
“Well I…”
“Watch your mouth Davina, I won’t have you talking to my wife without respect” Damian said, defending June and slowly, June found herself starring at him only to see him looking at her.
“Your wife? Care to explain to us what is going on!” Martha said, looking at her son with worry filled eyes.
“I suggest we all take a seat while we let her explain to us” Greg said, asking the ladies to seat except for Davina who gave him a warning look to stay away.
“Why don’t you make things clear to everyone cause as is it, I don’t remember a thing” Damian said, watching her with keen interest.
“Well, I first met Damian at Singapore. It was love at first sight for the both of us and we ended up getting married at a little chapel there but he told me had to get back to Australia and was on his way to the airport when he had the accident” June said, telling them the story Greg had cook up himself.
“When I heard about the accident, he had already been brought to Australia with the aid of the hospital chopper” She added.
“Damian was brought back a week ago, if you were worried about him, you should have been here a week ago” Martha said.
“That’s because…I was scared, none of you knew about our marriage and I didn’t want to cause harm to Damian which is why I…”
“Lies! I don’t know why you all are listening to her crap. It’s obvious she’s a f**king gold digger, she heard of Damian condition and decided to use it for her own gain” Davina said hotly.
“Davina is right. You can’t just expect us to believe you, you need to show us prove about your marriage to my boss” Greg said, opening the way for her.
“I did bring our wedding certificate if that will do” June said bringing out the fake marriage certificate from her bag.
Greg took it from her and showed it to Martha and her daughters and while they went through the certificate, June took a quick glance at Damian wondering why he’s silent and she found him watching her, he’s been doing that for a while now.
She cleared her throat and tried to move away from his bedside but he took hold of her hand, forcing her to stand close.
“This is your signature, Damian! ” Davina yell, earning their attention.
“So finally you’ve been hooked” Cathy said, doing a thumbs up at her brother.
“Seems like it. Though I can’t remember, I don’t have a doubt that I married this pretty lady here” Damian said, his gaze on June once again.
“Why will you marry someone else when there’s Mitchell? She’s been eagerly waiting for your return and here you are with this….why aren’t you saying anything, mom” Davina said turning to Martha.
“If they are married, there’s nothing we can do” Martha reply.
“I can’t believe you too, mom. I know you’ve always taken Damian side in everything but not this, you should….”
“Enough Davina! If you will keep on ranting about this issue, I suggest you leave, your voice is giving me a headache ” Damian said to her and angrily, Davina left the room.
“Can you please go after her, Greg. Make sure she safely gets a taxi home” Damian ordered and Greg left to do his bidding.
“We will be leaving too, if your wife is here then I better prepare one of the guest room for her” Martha said, giving June a blank look and after giving her son a kiss on the forehead, she left the room.
“I have no problem with you getting married. Infact am happy since you will stop sleeping around with my school mates” Cathy said.
“When exactly did I sleep with them?” Damian demanded but Cathy shrug.
“Hope you keep him under control” Cathy said to June before dashing out of the room leaving the two of them.
June cleared her throat, praising herself for getting the first hurdle out of the way. Time to get rid of the second hurdle which is telling him about the divorce.
“Say it” Damian said suddenly.
“Huh?”
“You still have something more to say, you intentionally didn’t say it in front of my family cause it pertains to me alone, right?” Damian guess and she nodded, silently praising him for intellectual mind.
“Hope you aren’t going shock me more by saying you are pregnant? ” He said and she turn widen gaze on him.
“Of course not! Am not pregnant, you and I didn’t get that far” June said.
“So you are saying we haven’t consummate our marriage yet?”
“We haven’t. You…you were a gentlemen and you agreed to wait till the day we got married and then the accident happen and everything else is history” June lied through her teeth.
