Zoey’s Pov:
I stayed in the kitchen, trying to prepare dinner with Axel behind me, just sitting and watching. I’m sure even as little as he was, he could tell I was troubled.
I was in the kitchen, but my entire mind and soul were elsewhere.
Mum – her face kept replaying in my head. I still couldn’t believe I had seen her today. I mean…I didn’t want to.
I could recall the surprise on her face and I’m pretty sure she was shocked to know I was still in the country.
Well, if she’s been expecting me to return to her, she must be greatly mistaken. She kicked me out when I needed her the most. I recall how I had pleaded with her to believe me, but she turned deaf ears made me leave with a stranger.
Well, now, I don’t need her anymore.
“Mum” Axel called from behind and I sniffed and turned to look at him.
“Who was that woman? It seems you both know each other” he said and I twitched.
“Um…what woman are you talking about?” I asked, trying to pretend.
“The woman we almost knocked down on our way back from school. I heard her call your name. Who’s she?” He asked again and I blinked rapidly and turned back to my pot.
“Um…she’s just someone I used to know” I replied simply, trying to keep my hands busy by chopping the carrots.
And thankfully, he didn’t say anything regarding it again.
“Mum…” He called after a while of silence.
“Yes, son” I replied still chopping the carrots and not turning to look at him.
“There’s a question I’ve always wanted to ask.
“Where’s my father?”
Immediately, I cringed and mistakenly hit the knife on my hand, creating a little cut.
Oh my God!
The blood coming out from my finger didn’t matter as I stood like a statue, gob smacked by the question.
Axel also didn’t say anything and slowly, I turned and looked at him.
For the first time, I felt nervous in front of my own son.
“Axel…” I called
and stood to face him.
My eyes were on the floor.
“Um…your father…he…”
“Did he abandon us?” He asked and I gasped and dropped to a crouch immediately.
“Of….of course, not. He’d never do such a thing. He just….”
“Is he still alive?” He cut me off, looking into my eyes and searching for answers.
I stared back at him and didn’t know what to say.
Is Zosar still alive? Of course.
The last I saw him was five years ago and I haven’t heard from him since then.
Tears formed up in my eyes, but I tried so much not to spill them in front of the kid.
“I don’t know, son. We…just kinda got separated. I’m sorry” I concluded with a mutter and a tear came rolling down.
I sniffed and was about wiping it off when Axel did it himself.
“Its okay, mum. I understand. Sorry for making you cry” he spoke softly and hugged me.
Oh my God!
I smiled as I held him tight, releasing more tears since he couldn’t stare into my face.
I stroke his hair gently and remembered all I had gone through giving birth to him. I couldn’t believe he was now the one consoling me.
Oh! Zosar, where are you? I wish you were here to make our family complete.

The next morning, I prepared Axel for school and dropped him off before heading to the office. Thank goodness I’m able to meet up with time and so far, I don’t think preparing Axel for school would ever make me go late.
I arrived at the company and was on my way to my office when I came across the old secretary – Joan.
She fumed as we got closer to each other and when she got to where I was, she purposely hit my arm and rolled my eyes.
I scoffed and held her back.
“Hey, did you do that on purpose?” I asked, still holding her hand and not minding the rest of the people around.
“What the f**k? Will you let go of my arm?” She snapped and I let go of it.
“Listen to me” I said lowly.
“It isn’t my fault that you’re unlucky and your boss chose me over you. So, I’d really appreciate it if you just take your madness far from me”
And with that, I walked away.
Geez! What an asshole.
I got to my desk and decided to greet the boss before setting to work.
I knocked on his door and he ushered me in. He was on a call, but quickly rounded it up as soon as he saw me.
“Zoey” he called ecstatically.
“Good morning, sir” I greeted with a warm smile.
“Oh! Blissful morning. I hope your night was pleasant?” He asked.
“Yes – yes, of course. Thanks
“Um…just came to let you know I’m around. I’ll be at my post” I told him and turned around to leave.
“Zoey” he called back my attention.
“I…was thinking. Would you be chanced to go out for dinner tonight?” He asked and my eyes beamed.
Whaaat?
“D…Dinner?” I asked, surprised.
“Yes, Zoey. I just…you know? I just want us to hangout. Nothing attached” he said with a shrug, but I still cringed a little.
“Um…I…I’m not really sure about it, sir. But…”
“Oh! Come on, Zoey. Its just dinner. And don’t worry, we won’t be meeting up in my room this time around” he said and I chuckled.
“Well…I’ll just think about it, sir” I said with a nod.
“Okay.. That’s fair enough. Thanks” he replied and I nod and walked out.

Zach’s Pov:
Yes! Perfect!
She’s definitely gonna agree to it.
Hmm. I can’t wait to carry out my plans for her.
I don’t know, but there’s just something about this Zoey lady – something unique and I really like her for it.
So, I’ve made up my mind.
Tonight, I’m gonna ask her to marry me.
