I was at home one fateful Sunday when Susan came to accost me. I welcomed her though.
‘..Steven, what are all these nonsense I am hearing about?’, she yelled.
‘Susan, what’s the meaning of this madness this morning? So you came to my house early this morning to shout at me?’, I sighed. ‘Susan, please let me be. I am trying to come out from the mess you put me into. Enough is enough!’.
‘Oh, it’s true? So it is true that you are going about confessing what we had as a secret? Steve, what do you intend to achieve? To exonerate yourself and leave me as a bad person, eh?’, she continued yelling.
‘Susan, do you know the level of mess you put me into? Do you know the level of damage you have caused me? Do you know the level of destruction you have done in my life?,’ I paused. ‘Anyway, I wouldn’t blame you because only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches. What I can’t do is to remain silent while my life is crumbling. I am doing all I can to save myself from the destruction you have subjected me into. Susan, please leave me alone. Stay away from me. ‘I am evi|, ehn?’, she asked amid tears. ‘I did all I have to do just to make sure that your brother’s lineage is safed. Do you think it was an easy decision for me? But it’s a sacrifice I had to make for the sake of my marriage..’
‘Susan please spare me this your emotional blackmailing,’ I interrupted. ‘What sacrifice are you talking about? That you manipulated and took advantage of my naiveness for your own s£xua| interest?..’
‘Steven enough! I did it because your brother, my husband, was an impotent. He was unable to get me pregnant. I am sorry you had to be involved in the whole thing..’
‘Jude, impotent?’, I had to ask in great surprise.

According to the divination, the spirit of my late father and that of my brother, Jude, are very angry with me. Even my ancestors are against me for the taboo I committed with you’, I paused. ‘The solution to all is atonement. And for the angry spirits to be appeased, I have to confess. So I had no other option than to let the cat out of the bag,’ I explained.
‘I am very sorry that I had to involve you in all this. But I just want you to know the reason I had to do what I did,’ she paused. In a sober reflection, she continued: ‘Although, along the course, I allowed my flesh to take absolute control of me. But you wouldn’t entirely blame me because every woman needs a man who gives her attention, care, love and s£xua| satisfaction. That was the more reason I became selfish — and wanted you all for myself,’ she sighed. ‘Steven, I am not the devil you think of me. Secondly, if tomorrow I had the opportunity to choose between you and any other man in this world, I will not hesitate to pick you. I had the best memory of my life with you. I love you so much’, Susan said in tears and left my house crying.

I was swimming in the ocean of thoughts when my phone rang. I took a glance and it was a strange number. Reluctantly, I had to pick. It was my wife’s boss at her place of work.
Firstly, she introduced herself. Then I had to greet her after learning she was the one.
‘Good afternoon ma’.
‘My son, how are you?’.
‘Madam, if I tell you that I am fine, it means I am a liar.’
‘It’s well my son. Have you managed to reach to your wife?’.
‘No ma. I have done all my possible best but all to no avail’.
‘I called to fulfill my promise to you. I will forward your wife’s new number to you now. I wish you all the best..’ she briefly said.

Shortly, a message popped up on my phone. It was the number.
I had to call my wife with a different phone number. She picked. On hearing my voice, she ended the call. I called several times but she refused to pick up. Instead, she switched off her phone.
I composed a text message expressing how deeply sorry I was. Then I sent it to her. The message was later delivered and she read it.
In the late hour of the same day, I called my wife on the phone and luckily for me, she picked up. Not just that, she also gave me a listening ear that night. I pleaded with her for forgiveness. But after all I said, my wife didn’t say even a word to me. Instead, she ended the call when I was done talking.
I never gave up hope. Each minute of the day, I kept calling and texting her asking for forgiveness. I even explained to her what Susan told me was her reason luring me into her bed.
But on a fateful night, I called my wife to ask if she had forgiven me and as well know when she would come back home because the house has been nothing without her.
