π« My Sexcapedes EPISODE TWENTY SIX: β£οΈ
What if truly that the man I thought to be my father was not my biological father? What if the fate of my father was the same with that of Jude, my brother? Does it mean that my mother and Susan were birds of the same feathers? These and many more I asked myself every now and then.
Meanwhile, as much as I was very eager to find out the truth of the whole thing, I was also being careful not to end up exposing my secret with Susan in the course. Because, in the course of asking questions or making trouble with my parents, especially my mother, it could trigger Jude into carrying out DNA on his children to be sure of his fate as well, especially if in the end that it wasnβt my father who was responsible for my pregnancy just like Jude and his children real scenario.
At one point, I had to travel home to confront my mother on the matter. Although, I didnβt let my brother know about the issue on the ground.
I got home and luckily, my father was not home. He traveled to the village for a meeting. My mother welcomed me and served me food but I turned down the food. That was the first time I was rejecting her food amid visiting.
βMy son, this one you are rejecting my food, has that w|tch finally poisoned your mind towards me?β, my mother asked.
βMama, I am not here for drama. What brought me home all the way from Lagos is a serious issueβ, I said.
βMy son, have you finally come back to your senses? Are you here to discuss with us on how to send that w|tch back to her fatherβs house?β, she asked with every seriousness.
βMama, all I need now is nothing but the truth. Whoβs my father?β, I had to ask.
My mother was very shocked. She was very surprised.
βWhat did you just say?β, she asked, pretending not to hear me.
βMama, I want you to tell me who is my father?β, I repeated it again.
βAhh! Steven, are you the one asking me this question?β, she asked, still very surprised.
βPlease tell me who my father is. I want to know my real father. I want nothing from you but the truthβ, I yelled at her madly.
βHas that w|tch finally poisoned your mind to the extent of questioning your paternity, ehn? Steven have you lost your mind to stand in my face to ask me such stup|d question?β, she ranted.
βMama stop pretending as if you donβt know what I am talking about. Stop making f00l of me and start talking now..β,I yelled, angrily. I was raging. My body was vibrating. She has noticed it.
βMy son,βshe began in a calm voice. βThe man you grew up to know as your father is your father. If anybody tells you otherwise, then the person is lying to you. That personβs mission is nothing but to bring down our familyβs name. My son, please donβt listen to whosoever the person is..,β she was pleading amid tears.
I kept quiet, calming myself down so as not to blow it hot. I have sensed something fishy. Susan might be right. There was something my mother didn’t want to tell me. Even, from all indications, she wasnβt ready to talk even if I continued to press her. She had something to herself. I saw the guiltiness on her face. Something was definitely wrong somewhere and I have to find it out. But I have to be very careful about it so as not to implicate myself in the course.
βI am not a child anymore. I know you are hiding something from me. The worst is that you are not ready to talk. But I must find out myself,β I surged up like a wounded lion. βI smell conspiracy. I am going to the village to meet himβ, I banged on the door and headed out.
βMy son, please take it easy on your father. You know that his health is failing him badly. You know his heart condition very well. Please donβt kill him for meβ, I overheard her pleading.
You need to see the way I marched against the decking floor like that of an angry soldier. I know very well that the anger on my footsteps alone would definitely subject the tenants downstairs into panic. They would even think that the building was about to collapse.
Thank goodness my parents were the landlord. My brother built the house. The house was situated in Awada, Onitsha. It was a two storey building. Jude handed the house to our parents. They were the ones renting out the apartments and the proceeds belonged to them. My brother used the building as a form of settlement to them.
I headed to the village right away. However, my alleged father has questions to answer. Like I said before, there was conspiracy. Because my mother, somehow, was willing to talk but something was holding her back not to talk. It has to be the fear of my father. So, the old man, probably, had the answers I have been looking for.
I got to the village and he was at a meeting. Thank goodness the meeting was held in our compound. I went straight to the scene of the meeting and called the old man out. Normally, he would hesitate to follow me, but my long face alone made him go with me right away. The level of my anger blindfolded me not to even see my kinsmen not to talk of greeting them. They were all watching my drama in a speechless and confused manner as I went away with my father. Although my anger was even visible to the blind; it was boldly written on my face.
βMy son, what’s the problem? Steven is everything alright?β, he curiously asked.
I took the old man unaware. He wasnβt even aware of anything not to talk of my coming. Because his phone has been off. If not, his wife would have informed her of the whole thing even before I could get to the village.
βLook, everything is not fine o! All I am here for is answers. I want answers to my questionsβ, I yelled.
βMy son, calm yourself down first and talk to me. Stop shouting at me. Do you realize you are talking to your father?β, he sighed. βWhat questions do you want answers for?β, he asked.
βWhoβs my father?β, I released the bombshell immediately.
The question hit him like a shock. I donβt need to be told that he and my mother had a skeleton in their cupboard because his reaction alone has said it all.
βAre you insane?β, he asked, still surprised and confused.
βI am not insane. You are not my biological father. Who is my father?β, I asked again, raging.
βWho is feeding you with all this nonsense?..β
βDoes it matter? What matters now is that I have known the truth. So what I need from you now is an explanationβ, I said.
βWhat explanation do you need, Steven? What are you even talking about? I am your father. Have that at the back of your mind in case this if you are going insaneβ, he said.
The old man was not ready to talk. He was proving hard to crack. And I was losing my patience.
βI donβt want to go hard on you old man. But I am losing it. Please tell me the truth. Who is my father..?β, I was shouting.
Before you could know it, I had caused a scene already. I wonder why our kinsmen have not heard my voice yet because none of them came to witness our drama.
βSteven, you are mad. Whatβs wrong with you? Why do you choose to disgrace me this way?..β he was asking.
Unfortunately that day, I lost it. I couldnβt control my anger anymore. I said many unbearable words to the old man. I must confess, I was very harsh on him that day. I created a very big scene that day. But it wasnβt my fault entirely. Why would he refuse to tell me the truth even when it was very obvious that they were hiding something from me?. It was crystal clear that he wasnβt my father.
I left the scene immediately when I sighted our kinsmen rushing to know what the problem was. They were even calling me but I ignored them. I was very angry because I didnβt get an answer to my question.
On my way back, my phone rang several times, with different numbers, but I refused to pick any of the calls.
I went back to Onitsha and displayed another madness to my mother before leaving for Lagos very much unfulfilled.
Days Later:
I got information that my father was critically ill. That his heart failed him the moment I left after the fight and he was rushed to the hospital in a medical emergency.
In fact, I regretted my actions. I was really too hard on that old man without considering his health condition. The anger really got the better side of me that day.
The old man had deteriorated health. Apart from diabetes, he had myocardial infarctions disease β Heart Attack. And the type he was suffering from was the most dangerous of it all:STEMI. A heart attack where a coronary artery would be completely blocked.
My mother called my wife and started accusing her of being the one remoting me. She vowed that if anything happened to her husband, that she would never forgive us.
One day, Jude and I got an emergency call from home. The message has it that our attention was needed immediately at home.
