RUIZ ROYAL ESTATE
Camila opened her eyes to find Alejandro looking down at her worriedly. She blinked to make sure he was real, but he stayed there.
“Alejandro?” she called slowly.
“You’re awake. Do you need anything?” Alejandro quickly asked. He turned to a nurse. “Tell Thomas to come in; my wife is awake,” he instructed.
“Yes, Mr. Ruiz,” the nurse nodded and left. A few minutes later, Thomas came in, fixing his gloves and placing his stethoscope on her chest to check her heartbeat.
“Her vitals are better now,” Thomas said.
“Do you want to eat anything?” Alejandro touched her forehead, asking softly.
Camila shook her head and struggled to sit up. Alejandro helped her sit on the bed.
“I’ll have someone get her something to eat,” Thomas said. Alejandro nodded, and Thomas left.
“Don’t worry, I’ll find whoever tried to hurt you, and I’ll make sure they pay for what they did,” Alejandro vowed, stroking her face, determined to punish the culprit.
“I’m fine. It was just a little bite,” Camila forced a smile, but Alejandro’s gaze was fixed on her pale face and dried lips.
“Not when it got you looking like this. From now on, you’re staying by my side, and I’m never letting you go,” he said firmly.
“Are you going to tie a chain around my neck and force me to stay with you?” Camila teased.
“If it requires that, then yes, I think I should,” he replied, and Camila could only smile at his clinginess.
A nurse returned with a bowl of soup for Camila.
“I’ll have it,” Alejandro took the bowl, and the nurse excused herself. He scooped some soup with a spoon and blew on it.
“I can feed myself,” Camila mumbled.
“Hush and open up for me,” he whispered, bringing the spoon to her mouth. Camila had no choice but to accept the food.
Alejandro fed her carefully, making sure no soup spilled. Camila couldn’t help but smile at his attentive care. She felt the urge to pinch herself, wondering if this was real.
“What’s wrong?” Alejandro asked when he noticed Camila wasn’t eating anymore but just staring at him with a smile.
She shook her head. “It’s just that this moment feels so surreal. I never imagined Alejandro Ruiz treating me with such care, like I’m a newborn,” she mused, shaking her head at what she had always considered a fantasy.
Alejandro stayed quiet, staring at her with a mix of confusion, thoughts, and disbelief, the spoon of soup frozen in his hand.
“Hey, did I say something wrong?” she asked softly.
Alejandro blinked back to reality, cleared his throat, and set the bowl of soup aside. He called for a nurse, who responded immediately.
“Make sure she finishes her food,” he ordered before standing up to leave.
“Where are you going?” Camila called, but he didn’t reply or turn back. He just left, closing the door behind him.
Camila wondered what she had done wrong.
“Ma’am, please, you need to eat,” the nurse said softly, pointing the spoon of soup to her mouth.
“I’m full,” Camila muttered, looking away.
“If that’s so, then I won’t force you. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to use the nurse button, and we will attend to you immediately,” the nurse flashed a polite smile before leaving.
Camila stared at the ceiling with a sigh. “What could have possibly happened now?” she couldn’t help but think.

BRIARWOOD SCHOOL
The cafeteria was filled with students as usual. Isabella ordered her lunch and sat with Brett.
“I’m surprised you came to find me instead. I’m usually the one chasing you around,” he teased with a smile.
“It’s not that new. We’re friends now,” Isabella rolled her eyes.
“You don’t look fine,” Brett said after observing her face.
“Wow, thank you, Brett. That’s a very loving thing to say,” Isabella mumbled sarcastically.
“I don’t mean it that way. You’re beautiful, but you look stressed. Are you okay, Isabella? You know you can talk to me, right?” Brett gave her an assuring look.
Isabella sighed. “Valeria came to me this morning, very angry, accusing me of something I didn’t do and threatening me to fix it within a day,” she told him.
“That blonde bitch,” Brett couldn’t help but curse. “Don’t let her ruin your day anyway. Remember, you’re very beautiful,” he smiled, tucking some strands of hair behind her ear.
“Thank you, Brett,” Isabella flashed a sweet smile.
Someone dropped a tray of food on the table, and Isabella looked up to see Ace. He took a seat, wiggling his brows at her.
“We didn’t say you could sit,” she said.
“And I didn’t ask,” he replied matter-of-factly. He then turned his gaze to Brett and gave him a small nod.
“You guys look like you need a little company, so I came,” he smiled and licked his lip ring.
“We don’t need anyone,” Brett assured him.
“If that’s the case, then Isabella, will you go on a date with me Thursday night?” he asked.
“What?” Isabella gave him a confused look.
“Think about it. You don’t need Elijah anymore. He’s with Valeria, and he doesn’t care. You can either let him disrespect you or get him back,” Ace said, dipping his hand into his pocket and sliding his card to her.
“I’ll wait for your call,” he winked and stood up, going to meet his other friends.
Isabella stared at the card, then at Brett.
“Why are you looking at me? Go out with him if you want,” he shrugged, eating a bit faster than usual.
“I do want to get back at Elijah,” she mumbled.
“Trust me, Isa, he doesn’t care,” Brett sighed.
“Why do you say that?” Isabella asked, and Brett looked over at Elijah’s table. He was eating with Valeria, but his eyes kept glancing in their direction, stealing looks at them, specifically him.
“I just know,” Brett mumbled.
