APC Raises Alarm Over Fake Court Ruling Disqualifying Okpebholo from Edo Governorship Election
With less than 24 hours to the Edo State Governorship Election set for September 21, 2024, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over a fake court ruling circulating online, falsely claiming that their candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo (Akpakomiza), has been disqualified. The party, in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, condemned the ruling as a fabricated attempt to mislead the electorate and disrupt the democratic process.
Morka expressed deep concerns about the spread of the false information, calling it a “desperate act” designed to confuse voters on the eve of the election. He emphasized that Senator Okpebholo remains the legitimate and undisputed APC standard-bearer, urging voters to disregard any claims to the contrary. “This fake news is meant to sow seeds of doubt and subvert the will of the Edo electorate. It must be thoroughly rejected by the good and discerning people of Edo State,” Morka said, stressing that no court had issued such a ruling.
The APC also called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the origin of the fabricated ruling and bring those responsible to justice. Morka reaffirmed the party’s faith in the electoral process and urged Edo voters to stay vigilant and resolute. “We trust that the Edo people will reject these illegal devices aimed at derailing the election,” he added. As the state gears up for election day, the APC remains confident in Senator Okpebholoβs chances and encouraged citizens to cast their votes based on truth and integrity.
