Jake knocked on the door and it took who ever was in few minutes before the door opened, revealing to him a weird looking guy, he had a towel hung on his body and his eyes were red, like he had been crying overnight.
“I already hate it here” Jake thought.
Kelvin cleared his throat and arranged his hair. “I’m not gonna ask any questions, just come in” He left the door open for Jake to step in.
Jake looked confused as he walked in, looking around and studying the room quite well.
“I know I’d be expecting a new roommate, the person before you left here last week. That is his space over there” Kelvin pointed an empty closet.
“And I’m Kelvin Hall by the way” He introduced himself.
After a short while of being silence. “Jake Connor”
“Cool name” Kelvin smiled and made his way back to his bed.
“Shouldn’t you be in school this morning?” Jake asked as he went to drop his luggage.
“I don’t want to see her” Kelvin muttered.
“Who?” Jake asked but bit his lips immediately. Why did he even ask, now this guy would want to make friends with him.
“Julia Summers, we dated for about a week but we broke up yesterday. I didn’t know she would lose interest in me so fast. I’m afraid I’m not over her yet but she doesn’t care, soon she would make headlines with a new man and forget all about me like I was nothing” Kelvin’s voice cracked with emotions as he spoke.
“He’s such a weirdo for crying over a girl” Jake muttered but Kelvin was able to hear him. He however seemed not to be offended judging from his next reply.
“She’s not just a girl, I love her, I still do, I’ve always did, i just can’t believe we are over now” Kelvin sniffed and wiped the tears falling from his eyes.
Jake rolled his eyes and mumbled some inward curse. Must he confine someone everyday of his life? He suffered this with his mom for years now he came to a new place to do the same with his roommate.
“I don’t know how to make you feel better but if you’re not enough for her then she’s not enough for you either. Why not have fun and let her know you’re doing well instead of hiding here and stuffing your tears with a pillow” Jake raised one of his brows as he reasoned with him.
“You’re right!” Kelvin sat up. “If I’m not enough for her then she’s not enough for me too. Look at me, I’m the captain of the swim team, plenty girls want me and if I wish, I can even get a girlfriend today” Kelvin nodded in realization then faced Jake again.
“Thank you Jake, I like you already” He smiled.
Jake only gave him a forced smile.
“We can go to class together, what department are you?” Kelvin asked as he grabbed his towel, finding his way to the bathroom.
“Art in the fine art major” Jake replied.
“Oh, we are different” Kelvin pouted sadly. “I’m in the department of kinesiology, I’m an athletic” He boasted.
“Yeah I see that” Jake almost rolled his eyes.
“But you can also be an athletic, you have the height and body” Kelvin suggested.
“Not interested, I’ll see you later” Without waiting for a reply, Jake left the room with his bag.
Kelvin smiled. “I like him already”

FINE ART DEPARTMENT**
“Thank you Julia for the beautiful poem but it lacks something in it. The write up is good but I can’t really feel the energy, you should try like a change of scenario and maybe yoga because you seem stressed” Miss Salome said with her usual Bollywood accent as she was from India.
“Thanks Miss Salome, I’ll try again” Julia flashed a low smile.
A soft knock was heard on the door, it slowly opened, revealing Jake who looked a bit unsure. “I’m new here, am I in the right department for fine art, the poet class?” He asked.
Students were already admiring him especially the girls.
“From my list here, it says I’m expecting a new student. Come in and introduce yourself to everyone” Miss Salome gave Jake a welcoming smile.
Jake moved to the front of the class, his hands on his pocket and Julia’s eyes never left him with each step he takes.
“I’m Jake Connor, I’m new” He told the class.
“Will you mind telling us what made you transfer to this school?” Miss Salom asked.
“Yes I would mind” He replied and Miss Salome looked at him like she couldn’t believe he’d say that for a second but brushed it off.
“It’s okay, now that you’re here, we were about grouping ourselves into poem partners, you’d stay with Julia Summers”
Julia Summers… That name rings a bell for Jake and he remembered Kelvin crying about a girl who broke his heart with the same name.
“Miss Salome” A girl from the back raised her hands. “I don’t think it’s right to ask Julia to partner up with the new student, you said it yourself that she’s bad at poem” Amanda gave Julia a dirty look and Julia rolled her eyes in return.
“You won’t tell me how to run my class Amanda” Miss Salome replied and opened the book she was holding. “You will partner up with Ray and the rest of you, pass the list among yourselves to know your partners and that would be all for today” Miss Salome then left the lecture room.
Amanda walked up to Jake with a smile and Jake don’t like her at first glance.
“Hi, I’m Amanda Beckett” She stretched her hands to him for a handshake but he snubbed her, his hands never left his pocket.
“That’s fine” Amanda slowly put her hands down. “But I’m not your enemy Jake” She then gave Julia, who’s busy packing her books, a look. “I want to warn you about her, she’s kinda manipulative so beware of her, you’re welcome” Amanda gave him the usual seductive and manipulative smile she carries with her before leaving.
Julia flashed Amanda a curious look as she wondered what she was saying this time to spoil her name but when she felt something on her table she looked up to see Jake, he just dropped a little paper there and was already walking away.
“Hey what’s this?” She asked before he could move further.
Jake had only take two steps away before sighing, rolling his eyes and turning to face her.
“We are poem partners and I thought you could use my number” He told her.
“But what if I want you to use my number?” Julia sneered at him.
Jake looked flatly at her before replying. “As a matter of fact I don’t take people numbers especially not yours so call me or forget me as your partner”
Julia was amused.
“Are you threatening me? There are guys out there who wants my number” She gave him a disbelieving look.
“Look around, I don’t want it” Jake didn’t wait for any response before walking away.
Julia shook her head and tore a paper to write her number in it then chased after him, thankfully he haven’t gone far and she blocked his path.
“What is this?” Jake drawled at her, looking annoyed.
“I don’t know what Amanda told you about me but I call shots new student, have it” She stretched the paper towards him but his hands never left his pocket.
Julia stared at his face, she has never seen someone look at her the way he does. His face was stoic, his eyes lacks emotions and even his voice sounds flat and uninterested, like her face was boring his already dark soul.
This was the first guy not admiring her looks and it pissed her off, she grabbed his hands from his pocket and put the paper in it.
“Call me, I’m not interested in you either if that’s what you think” She eyed him from head to toes and couldn’t help but admire his tall height and chiseled figures.
He’s handsome but she would never admit it again.
“Take a picture while it lasts” Jake smirked and before Julia could reply, he was gone and not just that, he also dropped the paper she gave him on the floor.
Julia was astonished.
“Can you believe that guy!?” She thought to herself.
