One minute he wants to be around me and the next minute he doesn’t want anything to do with me. I’m starting to think I’m the problem, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you Derek hasn’t spoken to me for a week now. If he ever does, he acts like nothing happened between us.
A plaything god-damn little kid is all I’ll always be to him and when he comes around and says he needs me. I foolishly give myself to him without a second thoughts and it makes me feel more horrible than myself.
Staying with Derek, being so close, and thinking about him every god-damn time isn’t healthy for me. I should avoid him and run as fast as I can but when he says stop then I’ll stop. God, I’m such a fool, good for him I’m crying myself to sleep for another night.
Having a thing with an older guy is not the best idea. I wish I could get away from whatever trap he puts me through but I just can’t.
“𝘙𝘐𝘚𝘌 𝘈𝘕𝘋 𝘚𝘏𝘐𝘕𝘌 𝘐𝘛’𝘚 𝘉𝘓𝘖𝘕𝘋𝘐𝘌 𝘛𝘐𝘔𝘌” I woke up from sleep when Taylor drums on my closet door, waking me up from sleep.
I squint my eyes. “Blondie time, what are you talking about?” I’m confused.
“Just come with me” Taylor moved towards me and grabbed my hands, pulling me up. “Come with me, come on” She dragged me down the stairs.
“Taylor I’m not dressed yet and I’m pretty sure I’ve got drool all over my face” I complained.
“Come on you look perfect” Taylor rolls her eyes.
We got down and before I could even do anything something like sprinklers splashed all over my face.
“𝘏𝘈𝘗𝘗𝘠 𝘉𝘐𝘙𝘛𝘏𝘋𝘈𝘠 𝘋𝘖𝘝𝘌!!” Mom and Aunt Maggie are wearing birthday hats and blowing whistles.
I looked around, the house was decorated and there was even a birthday cake on the kitchen counter. I’m surprised, I forgot it’s my birthday today all thanks to Derek.
Speak of the devil, he’s climbing down the stairs all dressed up. I wonder where he’s heading too, at least remember it’s my birthday you asshole.
“Derek, aren’t you going to greet Dove, it’s her birthday in case you’ve forgotten” Aunt Maggie stops him.
He pauses on his step but never looks at me. “Happy Birthday” his voice cold and distant and before I could say a thank you which I wasn’t going to say anyway, he left, he’s gone.
“Would you look at that?” Taylor points out Derek’s rude behavior. “Dickhead” She scoffs.
“Watch your language Taylor” Aunt Maggie gives her a mom look and Taylor only rolls her eyes.
“Hunny, is everything okay with you and Derek? He seems mad and couldn’t greet you a proper happy birthday” Mom asked me.
He seems mad!? The only one allowed to be mad is me. He touched me, ate me up, and ignored me for a week straight and he’s mad? Screw him.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Mom” I deny.
“Aunt Lauren let’s not make Dove’s birthday about Derek. We have something to tell you” Taylor moved closer to me and held my hands. Okay each time she does something like this, she always has a plan.
“Dove wants to throw her very first sweet sixteen party without her parents,” She says to my mom and Aunt Maggie.
“I do?” I’m puzzled but she hits me. “I mean, I do” I smiled.
“Party without parents isn’t very advisable” Mom disagrees.
“Come on Lauren don’t be a fun squasher. Let the kids do their things, they are growing teenagers” Aunt Maggie rolled her eyes and Taylor clapped happily.
“They are still kids, minors, and a party by themselves isn’t very advisable” My mom still had doubts.
“They will be fine. We just have to set a curfew for them. Let them have fun Lauren” Aunt Maggie rubbed on Mom’s shoulder. Okay, why do I feel like Aunt Maggie is cooler than my mom?
“Fine, the latest I want you guys back is 9 pm. Anything later than that then you guys would be granted for a week and no phones” Mom says and I nodded.
“One more thing Mom,” I say and she looks at me. She’s so gonna kill me once we get back home but who cares? “I’m planning to get a change of hair color. I want to be a blonde girl from now on” I informed her.
“But why? Your hair color looks gorgeous on you” Mom frowns.
“Lauren come on, let her do what she wants. Dove come over and cut your birthday cake so we can take pictures” Aunt Maggie calls me, while moving towards my kitchen.
“But I’m not showered and dressed yet. Give me some minutes to freshen up, love you” I blew kisses to her as I found my way back to my room.
𝘞𝘌 𝘈𝘙𝘙𝘐𝘝𝘌𝘋 𝘈𝘛 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘚𝘈𝘓𝘖𝘕. Taylor and I are sitting in front of a mirror. She wanted to curl her hair and I wanted blonde and while Taylor’s hair was wrapped in girly curly, mine was covered with an electric hair cap.
“It’s so fun being sixteen don’t you think?” Taylor smiled at me and I only nodded.
“I’ve planned the venue for your party. A friend has the key to his mother’s restaurant and we were permitted to use it, it’s gonna be so exciting” Taylor smiles happily.
I nodded in agreement. “I can’t wait to. Thank you so much, Taylor, for everything” I smile at her. I’m thankful she’s a good friend.
“It’s nothing girl, trust me” She scoffs. “You’re my best friend and I’ll do anything to make you happy” She squeezed my hands.
I smile and stare at my reflection in the mirror. Will I ever tell her I’m having an illicit affair with her brother?
The hairdresser comes in.
“I’m taking off the cap now, are you ready to see your new look?” She asks me.
“Sure, so excited” I nodded in anticipation and she held the cap and then slowly took it off. The blonde hair falls freely and rolls down to my back.
“There you have it, you’re now an official blondie” She looks at my reflection in the mirror and smiles at me.
