” It’s still a no” Emma Blake said softly, refusing her best friend proposition.
“But it’s not something hard. Just go to the party and receive the award in my stead, I already told my manager and he say it’s fine if you go instead” Cathy urge, trying to make her agree.
“Can’t you see it’s impossible. How do you expect me, a nobody to go to an award winning ceremony and receive an award meant for a well known actress. That’s just insane” Emma said as she begin to pace around her room.
“But it’s the only thing I can think of. You know how hard it is for me to go out on dates in public, the reporters often make a field day out of it making it the scandal of century. That has got many men running away from me but Cesar, he is different and I know that he is my dream man which is why I can’t miss the cruise outing with him tonight ” Cathy said, referring to the third son of a wealthy billionaire she has recently been seeing.
“Are you sure about this Cesar guy cause from what I heard about him, he’s the typical spoilt rich brat” Emma told her.
“Those are lies! Cesar is the most bravest and caring man I have ever met”
“You said that about the last guy you went on a date with, isn’t his name Romeo?” Emma ask, twitching her lips.
“Romeo is a jerk! I don’t even want to hear his name again”
“I’m pretty sure you will be saying this same thing about your brave Cesar soon” Emma said, a smile tugging her lips.
“Emmanuella Blake! Watch what you say, don’t you know that things we say often come true?” Cathy chastise calling her friend by her full name.
“Sorry but I do believe that Cesar isn’t the guy for you and I suggest you go to your award ceremony tonight and let Cesar go on his cruise trip alone” Emma advice, sitting in front of her mirror to begin brushing her hair with her favorite brush.
“Then you leave me no choice. I will just have to keep bugging you until you agree” Cathy said getting up from the bed to take Emma brush.
“Give that back Cathy or I swear I will post the video of you snoring” Emma threaten.
“You wouldn’t dare”
“You know I don’t make empty threats” Emma reply and Cathy handed her the brush.
“It’s just for a night! Can’t you help your helpless friend?” Cathy ask.
“You are not exactly helpless” Emma reply.
“Common Emma, I beg you. Can’t you help me, I’m your friend, your best friend since child hood and besides, you will get to enjoy yourself at the ceremony. There are lots of food to eat during the after party and I heard that it’s a buffet”
“Are you trying to convince me with food since you know how much of a foodie I am?” Emma ask slowly and Cathy gave her a grin.
“Fine then! I will go and it’s not because of the food, it’s because I know you won’t let me forget this day if I refuse you”
“You really are the best, I love you so much my bunny” Cathy said sitting on Emma leg to give her a kiss on the cheek.
“Yuck! Do that with your Cesar and get off of me” Emma said, pushing her away.
“What do I have to wear to the ceremony tonight?” Emma ask.
” I will leave you to decide since you are a fashion designer but whatever you are going to wear make it red. You glow whenever you put on that colour” Cathy said, Sending a message to someone.
“So, how many hotshot are going to be there?” Emma ask.
“Just the usual. Some actress and actors, idol singers, producers, director and oh, the prince will be there too”
“The prince?”
“Prince Cyrus. The only son of the royal family, don’t tell me you don’t know him”
“I have only heard about him but I don’t know what he is in person” Emma admit.
“Same here. I have heard that he is a handsome devil, it’s a shame that I will be missing out on seeing the prince but I can’t cancel my trip with Cesar for it” Cathy said, feeling excited.
An hour later, Cathy left and after seeing her off, Emma return back home.
“Is that chatter box friend of yours gone?” Mary, Emma’s mom ask, a frown marring her face.
“Her name is Cathy mom and yes, she’s gone” Emma replied walking into the kitchen.
“You think a friendship with that girl will last? Quit dreaming Emma, while she’s an actress you chose to become a stupid designer working under that no good lady you refer to as boss. Soon enough, your Cathy friend will ignore you when she realise that you are of no use to her” Mary said bitterly.
“Must you always do this mom? Must you always try to bring someone down just because your life didn’t go the way you want?” Emma ask.
“What did you say? Can’t you see that I’m telling you this for your own good!” Mary yell at her.
“My own good? I know what is right for me, mom” Emma said softly.
“I don’t think so cause if you did, You would have pursue a acting career and get us out of this shit hole we live in, you would have married that wealthy suitor of yours and be living a good life by now, you wouldn’t have gone after Nigel and…”
“That’s enough mom!” Elena, Emma younger sister said, cutting her mom off.
“Must you always put your frustration out on Emma?” Elena ask as she came to stand beside Emma.
“Not everything is about money ” Elena added and then she turn to Emma.
“While you were out, Paul came over”
“Did something happen to Nigel?” Emma ask quickly.
“He only came to give back the books you gave to them. Nigel doesn’t want it” Elena said.
“I can’t believe this” Emma said and then she pick up her car keys and left the apartment.
“Mom, Emma needs all the love she can get now, you should stop blaming her for things that aren’t her fault” Elena said to her mom.
“Ungrateful. You two are ungrateful children” Mary lash out before heading to her room.
